Indeed it is.. Or rather was.
These 7 minutes brings so much history and insight of the show. This is were it all started, and this was the raw plan on how things were supposed to be.
Watching them at this time, being totally unknowing of how influential this would be, and how much the show would mean to them in the future.. Phew..

I can't stress enough how wonderful it was to finally see this pilot episode.
    All thanks to Shelby.

Holy Máni! I've been hoping for this for about 10 years now. It's a shame there's not more too it, but at the same time it's suprising they got as far as preparing a pilot before realizing there were union issues.
I like Julianna as Stephanie, but it seems like Shelby might've been an even more surreal experience.

    Thanks for the share.

Most of the scenes were used before, that is in the Bing Bang clips in seriously low and shamefull resolution. It's nice to see them in 720p. It's even fun to see simple drawnings to tell a part of the story, it doesn't bother me at all.

    Welcome (back) Skootch

    Re: LazyTown Pilot Episode

Sportacus getting dubbed over is one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life. Maybe they thought his accent would be too much for kids? At this point it feels like such a big part of his character, this is pretty jarring in the pilot.

And Robbie... Looks a bit scarier in this somehow. Maybe it's the butt for a chin... Interesting how Stefan talked in a slightly different manner for this version of Robbie too. A bit more stuffy or something.

Just had another look back at the full pilot, and it truly amazes me.
I would have loved to watch the style of the TV Show, as it was back then.
It was almost like a sitcom type of show.

The puppets were changed, was changed, and they even managed to fade out the "love sidestory" which was hinted in the first episode. Nickelodeon sure knew how to ruin the original idea.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I still love what LazyTown have become, but this pilot episode is like a totally different show. I would totally watch this for hours - even without music.

They should still switch to Julianna though. A pilot-episode show with JRM I would go totally otaku tier over..

You mean with Pixel having an obvious crush on Stephanie? Good point, because I wondered why that was never brought up again. Also the end of the crystal caper episode I think they were implying a romance between Trixie and Stingy, unless it was just a friendly kiss, that was never brought up again.

    LazyTown Pilot Episode

I've been thinking about this "x has a crush on y" thing as well, but personally I'm ok with the current version of LT, it shouldn't be about romances or 'shipping' rather about friendship and keeping together.. I also got surprised at the end of that bing bang version when Trixie tried to...kiss Stingy?? idk but the other, Pixel's crush thing is almost the only thing I personally dislike in the show for some reason, since I first saw it. remember, the characters were quite different, even in the pilot, and probably older(see stageplays), at least I've seen 3D model pictures and there they looked older.

Sportacus' dubbed voice really throws me off. I love his goofy Icelandic accent; it makes him sound much more otherworldly. He is a sports-elf after all. Here he just sounds... cocky? Really off-putting.

Well, why not go and ask the head writer of the show about it then?

BJ: Also in the episode “Welcome to LazyTown,” during the scene were Pixel first meets Stephanie it is implied that he has a crush on her, yet that idea was never touched on again after that scene. Why not?

    MV: Hahaha.

BJ: I remember that scene too.

MV: Yeah, he definitely had a crush on her. The thing is, you don’t want to start something you can’t finish. So if you have a character with a crush, you have to develop that thread, which means Stephanie would have to age upward and lose some of her natural innocence. Even if it was about a sweet and young romance, that’s not what the show is about. So, we just decided to abandon that, or it was just abandoned naturally. There was the romantic scenario between Milford and Bessie; the unrequited kind of thing they had going, and that was better for us, because they were adults, even though they were childish adults. If you have two young kids in love, you've got to go somewhere with that, so it was better just to leave it.

    Stephanie Re: LazyTown Pilot Episode

Do any of you know if there was any reason they decided to pick Julianna as Stephanie for the real show instead of Shelby Young?

    Yup.
Why don't we ask the girl, Shelby, herself?

Chris: LazyTown fans that have bothered to pay attention to your story, which is quite a few, we know that you eventually had to back out of the role due to contractual disagreements between what LazyTown needed, and what your union would allow, but aside from that vague premise we really don’t know any of the details about what happened. So I was wondering if you could elaborate on what exactly happened that prevented you from playing that role.

Shelby Young: I filmed the pilot, we ended up going around, we did some other stuff, we did some stage work at some schools in, I think it was New Jersey. So I was with the project for a little while and then we found out that it got picked up by Nickelodeon, and we were thrilled. Then we found out, to save money, the production was going to go non-union. I’m a member of the Screen Actors Guild, it’s now Screen Actors Guild and AFTRA put together, but at the time it was just SAG. Basically, once you are in SAG, you’re not allowed to do non-union work. There are penalties. If you’re doing something small, like a spot in a music video, or a short film, or a one-off role, it’s highly unlikely that you’re going to get caught by SAG. It’s still frowned upon to do, but people do it. It’s fine helping out friends and what not, but if you’re going to be the serious lead of a show, that’s going to be filming for, I think at the time, they wanted me to commit to two years in Iceland. So obviously, my mom discussed it with SAG to see what those penalties were exactly, and whoever she was speaking to, we went back and forth for so long, it was such a hard decision, because we kept saying we didn’t think we could do it, and they would come back offering more money. To me as a kid, I didn’t exactly have a concept of money, I knew it was important to live, obviously, but it wasn’t something that would drive me; it would drive me more now than then to make that decision. But my mom found out from SAG that basically, you could either be fined a really hefty sum, or they could go so far, or what they were saying they would do, they could kick you out of the union. I don’t know if it’s for a certain amount of years or if it’s forever. I’ve wanted to act since I was a kid, and it’s something I hoping that LazyTown would help me with getting jobs in the future, but, from what it was sounding like, if we took the job it would really hinder me from working again. It just ended up not being worth it, sadly. It would have been such an amazing experience, but it was my mom's, and my, decision. Obviously, she was helping me make these decisions because I was only ten. She sat me down and was like, “Shelby, what do you want to do? What do you think we should do,” and I said, “Look, if it’s..” I mean, I wasn’t this articulate at the time, but I was like, “If this is going to keep me from being able to be in film and television for the rest of my life, then that’s just not worth it to me.” We ultimately decided to stay on the safe side and turn it down, and I think it all worked out the way it was supposed to. I think Julianna is an amazing Stephanie. I know, at ten, moving to Iceland for two years was something that I was already a little nervous about doing, because I had my friends and my whole life and it was a scary thought. I would have done it if it had worked out, totally, because I did love the experience, but things happen in a way they’re supposed to happen, I think.
