To be honest, I don't completely understand these protests. I understand the message just fine, but not so much the method of getting it across to people.

It's an emotional exercise. Under whatever banner, the product of feminism is always more ugliness in the world. It's not about persuasion so much as 'raising awareness' of the issue. Because few people will be convinced that less beauty is a good thing.
