    Anyone thought of translating Latibaer?

What are you using to make the audio a little clearer? Listening to that Russian clip, I might play around in Audacity to clean up the audio to make it a little easier to hear.

      Anyone thought of translating Latibaer?

I just thought I'd see what it's possible to do with online resources, and I was able to come up with this: my translation of the mayor's first song from Afram LatiBaer. Granted, there's a good chance that it's wrong, but I think it's pretty good considering that I have no experience with Icelandic.

Mayor: Life is foul in LazyTown/it’s barely life at all. Rest here in the quiet and sleep/ nobody is stingy. No one plays outside/everybody is alone, inside. Idleness makes fools/ with the television’s help. The conditions are so terrible/ no one is able to change anything. Everyone has no cares in the world/ no one does anything.

Of course, I agree that the biggest problem is going to be figuring out what they're saying without Icelandic subtitles, I had to try all kinds of spellings before I was able to figure out that grænmeti was vegetables. And understanding anything that Siggi says is just impossible.

There are some sing-along Latibær songs on YouTube. Those might make it a little easier.

And I don't remember where I found these but here are the lyrics to some songs.

        Allt í lagi í Latabæ

Viti menn, hún fór svona þessi saga!
Sjáið bara hve auðvelt er að blekkja mann!
Mesta klúður er furðu létt að laga!
Best að láta' ekki svona þrjóta hrekkja mann!

Allt er gott sem endar vel!
Og öll við syngjum að lokum..
        Að lokum syngjum við:

        Allt í lagi' í Latabæ!
        Lífið er frábært í Latabæ!
        Allt í lagi' í Latabæ!
        Lífið er frábært í Latabæ!
        Allt í lagi' í Latabæ!
        Lífið er frábært í Latabæ!
        Allt í lagi' í Latabæ!
        Lífið er frábært í Latabæ!

        Bing Bang

Bing Bang Dingalingaling!

Bing Bang Dingalingaling! Já, nú er mál að liðka allan líkamann!

Förum öll á fleygiferð og syngjum:

Einn, tveir! Og öll í einu: Enginn latur í Latabæ!
Þrír, fjór! Það er á hreinu: Enginn latur í Latabæ!

Klapp, klapp, læri, læri, kross, út, upp, upp!

          Anyone thought of translating Latibaer?

I'm actually using Goldwave to tweak the files to bring out the vocals more while dimming the other instruments, then Express Scribe to slow down the files without distorting the sound.

Those lyrics are Aggisu's. I've actually been working with her on some of the transcriptions when I get stuck.

I've got all of Áfram done, with the exception of Leikfimitími. I've also got several done from Glanni, with Aggisu's help, and Aleinn um Jolin from the Jol album. They're currently only posted on the LJ BBS - I'm working on reformatting the tables to display them elsewhere.

Wow, I'm so glad to see people are interested in doing this. I definetly want to help in some way shape or form but have no idea what I could do. I can't translate anything, I do not know how to subtitle, I'm not a grammar nazi........:( hmmmmm. Nindanjoe, if you could let me know what you have translated out of all the icelandic news clips I could probably find someone to translate a few of them.

We also need to someday get that one translated of Stefan's wife talking on that talkshow and it shows Stefan in the car driving.

Do you mean that you've figured out what they're saying, or that it's translated? Just wondering if I'm wasting time translating anything. :(

Yes, I'm saying that I've completed translating those songs. I have the lyrics in Icelandic, the direct translation, and then a smoother English version derived from the direct, word-for-word translations I did. I'm putting things in tables for organization and easy comparison purposes. I should be finished and they should be posted sometime tonight after I get back from work.

Well, I'm willing to do the subtitles, seeing as I did already start doing them for the LJ BBS version of this project.

I swear that when this first came up at the LJ BBS you were practically paranoid that they'd be stolen. :?
Oh, and BTW, your icon is displaying larger than file size. Makes it look grainy.

                      Anyone thought of translating Latibaer?

It's rather interesting how things turned out.

kelly, what have you done so far with the subtitles? Also, what program do you use for the subtitles? I use aegisub and gives quite a bit of control with all sorts of fancy stuff (a lot better than the Sub-Station Alpha program I was using, I must admit). Which reminds me, does anyone know a font that looks like the one in the first play? Again, which brings me to something else, should that font even be copied? That font is hard to read at times. About doing the subtitles, there are a few steps a guide once told me. A general timing step just to show where everything would go and the final step to clean everything up (like no line should last 8 seconds kind of thing). We should probably discuss that at some point.

nv821 and Nalla are native speakers, but like I said, I'm not sure how busy with life they will get. I'm also not sure if they would be interested in translating the play actually. How about agisu? Would she be interested in helping, I remember the last time I asked she was quite busy. I was thinking of breaking up the plays into sections so that each section can be worked on by different people. Hopefully there won't be any interference as a result.

merlin55, whatever I got up is translated. Using VentrueChick's titles, this one is most likely in progress: News - 07 - business meeting.wmv (6.88 MB) 0:45

These are not done or I haven't requested a translation yet (I ask for each video one by one):

                      News - 01 - cast wrap party.wmv (5.09 MB) 2:24
                      News - 02 - obesity 2ndSport.wmv (3.62 MB) 1:40
                      News - 03 - nsh-making green screen.wmv (3.85 MB) 1:47
                      News - 03 - nsh-making interview.wmv (4.1 MB) 1:54

I've also got my own numbering for that now so as to not confused the 03s. I also have the pre-timing for those so choose one and I'll give that one up. This pre-timing makes things easier for me when I do the subtitles. I think it makes it easier for the translator since they will know when each potential line will start.

I have the whole interview with Stefán Karl's wife, or girlfriend at the time. The problem is I'm not sure if the whole interview should be translated (1 hour long), or just the parts with Stefán Karl (phone proposal and car part).

                        Anyone thought of translating Latibaer?

I have quite a number of Icelandic clips, some of which may or may not have been found by members here yet. You should see what you have so I can check against my cache. I also have a number of programs to assist in learning Icelandic, books that I've scanned, etc. Not Latibær books, as I've yet to badger the few vendors in Iceland I've found to ship those overseas, much less the DVDs... but it's something.

Aggisu has been rather busy and non-responsive as-of late, but I can always ask. I also have an Icelandic teacher who promised to assist me with my transcripting at some point, but I'm not sure if that's fallen through or not. She's studying and teaching in Denmark right now, so she's also busy.

Actually, the translations had been taken, before. I had posted a few that I'd started working on at the LJ Comm before I knew much Icelandic, just giving it a rough go, and quite a few friends later found the exact same translations turn up elsewhere at WoJ, with someone else taking credit. At that point I had been fixing things as I'd learned more, and my old mistakes were all in there.

As another sidenote, my audiofiles (with the exception of Littu Inn, since I haven't been about to scrounge a new source for that yet) for the Icelandic songs were ripped at a higher quality than Shinju's, which has helped in the clarity of the vocals. I also have a rip of Áfram all in one piece, and a new rip of Glanni from Shinju (although, I still have to combine the new files since she sent me the latter in chunks). If they are wanted, I will post them, but it may take a little bit. I'm currently uploading Spanish LT episodes for some people.
