Re: How To Downlaod From BBC Iplayer?

Thanks for the compliments. :)

Like stephanie's lazyboy recommended, I say try out Orbit Downloader since it's freeware. Since you live in the UK, you don't have to worry about getting blocked. They block people outside the UK from accessing their player.

I learned from DarkEdem that there is some P2P program or something that the BBC site has that lets UK based users download the TV programs. Try looking for that. Wait, here it is: http://anonym.to/?http://iplayerhelp.ex ... er_desktop

There's always a chance there are some restrictions involved with that. There could be some DRM, so after downloading with the iPlayer Desktop client, find out what file format it is. Then you can search for ways to remove the DRM, I might be able to help with that. DarkEdem reminded me of the WMV DRM removal method.

If all else fails, you can try and download the streaming .flv version they have. That is usually what you see in iPlayer while watching in an internet browser. Orbit Downloader should be able to get that, Replay Media Catcher (RMC) should be able too. If you decide to try out RMC, there's a demo version you can try to see if it works. Links below:

Replay Media Catcher: http://anonym.to/?http://www.applian.co ... /index.php

Demo restriction is 75% of the video, but I say try this one after trying out Orbit Downloader. An older version of Orbit Downloader gave me mixed results. Sometimes it would work, other times it didn't.

I'm not sure if this site is blocked outside the US, but here's a site with streaming flash you can test out with both Orbit Downloader and Replay Media Catcher:

http://anonym.to/?http://www.usanetwork ... o/spytips/

With both programs, you might have to close and open your browser again. That's the site I tested Orbit Downloader with, it worked the first time, but didn't later. It does work with RMC, for now.

Re: How To Downlaod From BBC Iplayer?

First I need to thank a friend of mine who spent all afternoon figure out this stuff with me
and thanks to Nindanjoe for the last post
Well there is one way to download and convert the DRM protected file from the BBC iPlayer. Actually there are two options:

1. try to download from this site http://www.r2x.co.uk/ the iDownloader. If you use it for free you can download one DRM free copy a day. But the resolution and the quality is lower than the original.

2a. There is an download link in the right corner of the video screen. You can download the file in MP4 and the WMV file (for the last option, the WMV file, go to 2b. below).
For the MP4: This downloaded MP4 file is also DRM protected and can only be viewed with the iPlayer. Together with the MP4 file you download also 4 other files and one of them is a XML file (for me it was named 'b00nn294'). You can open that in notepad or (better) in a website editor, so the file look like this:

Here you find the URL to the protected wmv file (everybody can download that file) and info about the resolution and stuff. You can directly download this wmv video file, don't need to stream it or anything (if you know how to make a link and right click -> save). If you have the file you can watch it in Windows Media Player and it downloads the key automaticly (if you have an IP adres from the UK).

2b. Now there is one specific software who can convert this protected wmv file, because this software downloads the key also, and that is Daniusoft Media Converter, download here: http://www.mediafire.com/?mdinewnzwny
It converts the file to different formats (mp4,mkv,avi,wmv,mov etc). You only need to click on 'settings' to add the right resolution because it was not able to discover the resolution of the original file :-(

We were able to stream it directly from the site but it's the same wmv file and also DRM protected and not a FLV file. So above methode is the easiest way.

Thanks, pooky. I was unaware of such a method, if that WMV with DRM can be snatched, then that will make things easier. There is a way to remove DRM from WMV files if you can get that key without re-encoding anything. Here's one such way: http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection ... Player.htm

I originally found out about this at the doom9 forums. I recommend doing full research on this and to understand what's going on.

nah doesn't work either.
FairUse4WM v1.3 is not so much updated since 2007. It works fine with DRM protected files from 2007 and 2008, it even worked with DRM protected BBC iPlayer files. But technique goes on and they invent other kinds of DRM protection, so if you stand still as DRM cracking software you can count on the fact that it stops working one of these days.
And there's another thing, it will not work with an IBX Version 11.0.6001.8015 (you must upgrade to this version now for the files to work). FairUse4WM 1.3Fix-2 can successfully remove DRM protection from Windows Media Player (WMP) lower than 11.0.6000.6324 (that is no problem) and with IBX v11.0.6000.7000.

Extraction in progress on "Indiv01.key" 11.0.6001.8015 -- Please wait.
Failed - Unable to locate encrypted code table.

And that mirakagi.exe is the same and can't decrypt either:

Processing "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM\cache\Indiv01.key"
Version: 11.0.6001.8015 ...
XML - Cert: 84 bytes, Key Storage: 1392 bytes.
DLL 1000/128438 @ ac01000 && 12a000/2bbb0 @ ad2a000
Cannot locate encrypted code chunks

btw we have a few video's from 2006 which are DRM protected and the licence key is still available on the net. So we played a few of the video's and it has downloaded the keys. It worked very well before with fairUse4WM1.3fix, but not anymore because of the upgrade to IBX 11.0.6001.8015 .

Testing with WMP 9 and 10 has the same results..

That's too bad. Just like how the methods I use can become outdated someday. =P Might be time to do more research, the doom9 forums should be a good place to start. They're usually after fair use legal stuff. :)

You obviously did not test it, which is in my opinion pretty stupid to post it here like it seems you did. The DRM is yet uncrackable but people are making progress. This Total Converter doesn't even get the online DRM key, which is necessary to unlock, so the image is scrambled and all, and after a minute it goes into an error...
Useless :?

Fails because of missing codec only.

Never had any issues unless the files are heavily encoded...like pooky's music ;)

Not true, it's a DRM problem. I have all recent codecs here and with my other converter (mentioned above) I have no problem. It gets the DRM key online from the BBC and convert after that, no scrambled images. You guys just don't get it
